The Circuit Clerk is a constitutional officer who is elected, every four years, by the voters of Kane County. The duties and responsibilities of the Circuit Clerk are established by state statue, as well as by the Illinois Supreme Court, Administrative Office of Illinois Court, and Local Rules set forth by the Chief Judge of the 16th Judicial Circuit.
By law, the Circuit Clerk's primary function is to establish, maintain, and keep all records of court and the court seal.
In addition to court related duties, the Clerk is responsible for a number of administrative, financial and public services.

Who We Are
The Circuit Clerk’s office performs the following responsibilities to support the office and court operations.

Responsible for creating maintaining and keeping court records

Serves as the official custodian of all evidence from trial placed in the official court records

Ensures a Deputy Clerk is present at every court hearing in person or via remote

Performing scanning and linking of documents not electronically filed as well as previous paper case filings

Provides customer service for the public, bench and bar at the Circuit Clerk main office and at the 2 satellite offices

Responsible for a number of administrative functions including processing all fines, fees, and assessments that come thru the office

Responsible for the compliance and reporting as directed by Federal and State Legislation and Local Rules
